METALLIQUE ZIPPOS
The use of "metallique" was an early effort by Zippo to decorate its lighters. The metallique consists of metal lace which was manually attached to the case of the Zippo, and the empty spaces created were painted by hand. The metallique was invented and patented byBezaleel Howe Whitmore through his company named "Probar". Zippo was a client from 1932 to about 1939 and Probar also supplied metalliques for many companies including Kodak, Case Knives and Singer Sewing Machines. Vintage metallique Zippos are quite scarce and are highly prized by Zippo collectors
