USS MISSOURI SURRENDER ZIPPOS

On September 2, 1945 the USS Missouri, or The Mighty Mo, America’s last great battleship, served as the site of Japan’s unconditional surrender to the Allied Forces, ending World War II. On that day U.S. General Douglas MacArthur and representatives of the U.S. and other Allied countries received the surrender documents from Japanese officials. A plaque now demarcates the location of the surrender on the deck of the USS Missouri which has also been replicated on the USS Missouri Zippo ever since.

The plaque reads: On this spot on 2 September 1945 the instrument of formal surrender of Japan to the Allied powers was signed, thus bringing to a close The Second World War - The ship at that time was at anchor in Tokyo Bay. Latitude 35'21'17 North ~ Longitude 119'45'36 East.
